in accordance with the requirements of the Corona Protection Ordinance of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Bundeskunsthalle is closed until 7 March 2021.

The exhibition Jerusalem. Longing for the Holy City unfortunately has to be removed from our program. The ongoing effects of the Covid 19 pandemic in numerous countries do not allow further planning of this exhibition, which is based on important international loans.

We hope to be able to reopen our doors on 9 March 2021 with the exhibitions Max Klinger and the Artwork of the FutureHannah Arendt and the 20th Century and Abi Warburg: Mnemosyne Atlas – The Original.

The following restrictions still apply to the library – at least until 7 March, 2021.

  • The library is open 2 days a week (Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) only for lending and returning media.
  • Please arrange a time slot of 25 minutes for sole use in advance – by telephone (0228/91 71 213) or by email ( A longer stay in the library is not possible.
  • The time windows start every full and half hour.
  • Find out which media you would like to borrow in our library catalog and send us your loan requests in advance – this way we can have media from the magazine (signatures beginning with F, M and Y) ready for you.
  • We are happy to help you with thematic searches. Talk to us – by phone or email.
  • Can't come or prefer to stay at home? All borrowed media are automatically renewed until 15 March 2020.

Protection and Hygiene Concept

for visiting the Bundeskunsthalle

The Bundeskunsthalle follows a special protection and hygiene concept in accordance with the requirements of the Corona Protection Ordinance of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. In particular, this means for your visit:

  • Obligation to wear mouth and nose protection in all public areas
  • Compliance with the minimum distance of 1.50 meters
  • Limitation of the simultaneous number of visitors (rule: one person per 7 square meters)
  • Compliance with special hygiene rules

We are offering print@home tickets with a window of time via that will take you straight to the exhibition without stopping at the ticket office. All ArtCard holders can also go directly to the exhibition entrance. Tickets are of course also available at our box office.

Please follow these rules when visiting the library:

  • You are required to wear a mask during the entire stay in the library and the entire Bundeskunsthalle.
  • Before entering the library, please either wash your hands or disinfect them (a dispenser with disinfectant is available).
  • All visitors must register in a visitor book (the data will be destroyed after three weeks).

Due to changes in the COVID-19 infection rate, there is always the risk of an exhibition or event being canceled on short notice. Tickets for the exhibitions and events already purchased in advance can be returned to the advance booking offices where they were purchased.
